Going to college is a big headache in many different ways. This is even worse when you are an adult. You will find it almost impossible to find a government grant which advertises itself as “for women only”. But if you are careful and diligent in combing through the reams of information that are publicly available, you will find that a few of them seem to give very strong advantages to special groups of people, e.g. minorities, women, mothers, etc. So if you are a single black widowed mother whose husband was a soldier who was killed in action, you are almost certainly eligible for quite a number of free government grants that you can combine together to pay for most of your college tuition fees and other expenses.

But just because you want to go to college does not mean you should restrict yourself to searching for government scholarships. There are other grant programs available that may be helpful to you. If you are a single mother, there may be subsidized housing for single mothers funded by the state or even federal government. While you cannot use this kind of money for college, it will reduce some of your living expenses. That makes it easier to find money for your Bachelors degree.

Not all government funds are disbursed directly to the public. Some federal money is paid to private organizations which then use it to organize and set up programs used to benefit the public. This kind of indirect government money can sometimes be easier to obtain than a direct personal grant.

In the end, if you as a woman or single mother want to go to college, there are many sources of government funding available. You need to be creative and hardworking to search them out, but they are out there waiting for you.
