Education grants are probably the post plentiful group of grants available. These grants are funds set aside to provide students, in a difficult financial position, with the funds needed to attend college. The money for this funding often comes from universities, private organizations, large corporations, and wealthy individuals. And they aren’t always known strictly as grants; sometimes these gifts of money are also referred to as scholarships, or endowments.
In order to apply for an educational grant, you will need to fill out your FAFSA application. Additionally, the university you have chosen to attend may require you to fill out their own personal Student Aid Report. From these two documents, your university and the U.S. Department of Education will determine your eligibility for education grants or scholarships. On top of this, the information you provide on your FAFSA application with also give the Department of Education a good idea of what your family’s expected financial contribution will be towards your college expenses. This determines the amount of money you will receive in the form of your educational grant.
And while low-income grants are one form of education grants offered; there are also educational grants awarded on merit. These are given to high school and college students in recognition of their academic, athletic, and artistic achievements. Such awards may also be given to students in acknowledgment of their extracurricular activities or community service. Then there are some merit based grants that are dependent upon your personal characteristics. A minority scholarship would be the most common example of one of these awards.
There are many online tools and personalized search engines to help you out in your search for the appropriate education grant or scholarship for your needs. As you continue to investigate scholarship databases, it is important to be certain that you meet the eligibility criteria before you apply for the desired grant. It would be awful to put forth the effort of writing a college essay and filling out the paperwork for an education grant only to be disqualified because you did not carefully read the eligibility requirements.
And keep in mind that because educational grant money tends to be dispersed rather quickly, the earlier you begin your search and apply, the better chances you have of successfully acquiring your desired education grant.

Affordable Education With College Grants
It costs a lot to receive a proper education. That’s why the government is doing everything it can to assist those students in need. By providing them with various student aids from employment to scholarships and college grant money, the government is in effect giving these students a chance to get the education they need. But what are college grants? And how do they differ from student loans and scholarships?
College grants are student financial aid programs that award tuition money to deserving individuals. Grants are available from the federal government, non-profit civic groups and private institutions to fund education based on a student’s economic need.
But contrary to what some people may think, college grant money is actually unlike a student loan. One difference is that when you have qualified for a grant, it means you no longer have to pay back the money you are given. In contrast, when you apply for a student loan, it means you are obligated to repay the money within a certain specified period, depending on what has been agreed upon between you and your loan provider. Because of that, parents and students alike favor college grant money to student loans.
In an effort to determine the amount of college grant money you may receive, most colleges and grant programs will factor in your parents’ income as well as the average cost of college. The result is a basic estimate of how much money you may be eligible to receive from your grant.
Most college grant money programs fix a certain amount which they then send to the colleges and universities where the grant is awarded. A student with a grant may either receive the money in checks via the postal service or the college would automatically credit the amount to the student’s account.
If you would like to receive college grant money through federal financial assistance, you’ll need to fill out the free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. The easiest way to do this is to visit the FAFSA.ed.gov website and fill out the form online. The FAFSA can not be filed before January 1st of the year you will be attending college or university.
Be cautious of the dates for which you will be filing for college grant money. Sometimes, the deadlines announced by the federal student aid programs may not match with those of the college of your choice. To be safe, file your application well before any deadline dates.
In addition to the FAFSA, there may still be other forms you will need to submit. Incoming freshmen may also need to complete the CSS Profile Application, as required by a number of private colleges. Your CSS profile provides administrators with additional data from which to derive your eligibility for institutiona1000l need-based assistance. This profile application usually becomes available in the middle of October. It’s also possible to register and apply online at collegeboard.org.
With the use of the processed information from either the FAFSA or the CSS Profile, colleges determine your eligibility for college grant money by using your household, demographic, and financial data as the basis.
